Low light output from the Tesla D8S 25-watt HID xenon system
The 25-watt Tesla Model S HID xenon headlights
Also not impressed by the output of the Tesla Model S D8S HID xenon headlights?
You are totally correct because the 25-watt system used in these headlights is seriously underpowered. And definitely needs an upgrade! This is fortunately possible with a minor investment in money and time.
Tesla used 25-watt ballasts and D8S bulbs. With this lower power/output system way a headlight washer system and leveling system are not required. Unfortunately, this results in a mediocre performing headlight. But with our professional know-how and specially developed kit, upgrading is a piece of cake.
Stage 1 - 35-watt Tesla Model S ballast upgrade kit
This Tesla Model S pre-facelift stage 1 kit contains everything you need to swap the underwhelming 25-watt ballasts used in the (EU) Tesla for the good-performing 35-watt version.
We also have a stage 2 kit, which contains 2 brand new and better Aharon HID bi-xenon projectors to replace the OEM Visteon projectors. This kit can be used to further improve the lighting or as a separate upgrade. You can find this kit here.
How to improve the light output of the Tesla Model S
Almost 40% improvement
Want to improve the output by around 38%? The best gain in light output can be achieved by upgrading the ballasts to 35 watts, which gives the system a lot more power and light output. You can check out the difference in the picture with the output shots.
Installing the new 35- watt HID xenon ballast and D1S xenon HID bulbs
Replacing the Osram 25-watt ballast can be done without removing the headlights. Removing some clips from the inner wheel well and 3 screws are the only thing necessary. We have made a video to ensure you are well prepared before replacing them. See tab 'video' for the installation video which shows all the steps to perform this upgrade.
The new ballasts work with D1S HID xenon bulbs instead of the 25-watt D8S bulbs. You can add some basic performing options like the XB35 bulbs or premium high-performance Osram HID bulbs (which we advise you to use).
The D1S bulbs need to be modified a bit to fit the D8S projector. This can even be done with a plier, in the video, we show you how to do it with a drill.
We look forward to brightening your day (not to mention your night)

This is an easy upgrade that complete novices can do, but those with more skills and experience will be quicker. The original ballast and bulb need to be removed which can be done by removing some clips on the inner fender and the new D1S bulb needs to be modified to fit the D8S projector. You can expect the job to take around 1 to 2 hours (both headlights). Please see the 'video' tab for the installation video.

The product images shown are for illustration purposes only and may not be an exact representation of the product. Actual products may vary due to changes in manufacturing/product enhancements. The product/kit pictures can differ from what you have received/will receive because we use generic pictures for the kits. Because with all the different options/product changes etc. it's nearly impossible for us to take pictures for all the kits we have, with all the different options and keep them 100% up to date. For example, butyl sealant can be shown in the picture, but with headlights that are originally sealed with butyl, it won't be in the kit.
