Loving referred to as “Baby Benz”, the Mercedes A W169 is a subcompact executive car that packs much of the design of the luxurious W204 C-class into a smaller and more practical vehicle. Add the excellent safety features and driving economics, and it's clear to see why this Baby Benz has become so popular. It remained in production between 2004 and 2012. The lighting technology used in this car is however more than 15 years old today.
Factory-fitted options includes H7 / H7 halogen and D2S bi-xenon headlights, both of which were manufactured by Bosch/AL.
The halogen version features an H7 reflector-based headlight that produces an average light beam even when new. In many cases, its light output has been further compromised as bulb heat and general aging cause the reflective layer to peel off.
Bi-xenon setups feature a 3.0-inch projector, this one designed in the late 90s. These projectors are known to lose their reflective layer right to the point where they become black inside, causing dangerously low light output.
