What are H15 bulbs?
H15 bulbs are dual-filament bulbs used in car headlights. One filament is for the high beam and the other for the daytime running light (DRL), so a single H15 bulb does both jobs.
Types of H15 bulbs
Halogen H15 bulbs: the standard type, with tungsten filaments in a halogen-filled glass bulb. Reliable and affordable, such as the Osram Original H15 in OEM quality, or the Osram Cool Blue Intense Next Gen H15 for a whiter, xenon-look light.
LED H15 bulbs: use LEDs instead of filaments, for a brighter, whiter light, a longer lifespan and lower power consumption. The Osram LEDriving HL Easy H15 Gen2 is a plug-and-play replacement with both the high beam and DRL function. H15 LED bulbs are not approved for use on public roads.
Advantages of H15 bulbs
- Two functions in one bulb: high beam and daytime running light, which saves space and simplifies the headlight design.
- Brightness: LED versions in particular give more light, for better visibility at night and during the day.
- Colour temperature: from the warm yellow of standard halogen to the cool white of Cool Blue Intense and LED bulbs.
- Lifespan and efficiency: LED H15 bulbs last much longer than halogen and draw less power from the car's electrical system.
Choosing H15 bulbs
- Compatibility: check that the bulb fits your headlight housing and works with your car's electrical system. Some cars need a canbus canceller with LED bulbs.
- Brightness and glare: more light improves visibility but can also cause more glare for oncoming traffic.
- Colour temperature: choose the light colour that suits your taste and driving conditions.
- Quality: choose bulbs from a reputable brand such as Osram for reliable performance and lifespan.
